Cox’s Bazar Airport Has an Exciting History:
Cox’s Bazar Airport’s origin dates back to World War II when British Raj authorities established an airfield close by Cox’s Bazar. Converted into a domestic airport by 1956 and eventually renovated and reopened after renovation during Bangladesh Liberation War (1971 to 1972). Modernization plans started being discussed for this airport back in 2009 to potentially house fighter jets should they become necessary.
Cox’s Bazar Airport’s Future:
Since 2012, the airport has made significant plans for upgrading and expanding operations for international arrivals, eventually positioning it as Bangladesh’s fourth international airport. Once complete, two major upgrading phases will bring improved facilities such as parking, landing, and takeoff of wide body aircraft such as B777/A330 models.
