Robi Axiata PLC – Second Largest Mobile Network Operator in Bangladesh

Robi Axiata PLC, also called Robi, is the second mobile operator that holds the title of the largest one in Bangladesh. The company was founded in 1997 as Telekom Malaysia International (Bangladesh) and the first years the company existed as AKTEL under that name. It was in 2010 that it took the name Robi Axiata Limited. Robi became Robi Axiata PLC in 2024 with the purpose to be listed on the exchange.

• Axiata Group Malaysia: 61.82%
• Bharti Airtel India: 28.18%
• Public Shareholders (DSE & CSE): 10%

Key Milestones:

• 1997: Launched as AKTEL.

Robi operates with one of the most extensive network infrastructures of Bangladesh.

As of August 2024, Robi operates 18,473 mobile network towers across Bangladesh.

Numbering Scheme:

Robi supports two numbering series for its users:

• +880 18 NNNNNNNN (Robi)
• +880 16 NNNNNNNN (Airtel)

Now, from 2018, with the introduction of MNP, users can switch to any operators while keeping their numbers.
