17th-century Mughal air-conditioned royal summer palace, hammam, and spiritual shrine erected by Viceroy Shah Shuja on the bank of an ancient lake.
Built around 1655 AD by Mughal Subahdar Shah Shuja as a summer retreat and spiritual hospice for his preceptor, Sufi saint Hazrat Shah Niamatullah Wali. "Tohakhana" translates to cold house, engineered with sub-surface water channels and thick hollow brick walls that kept the palace cool during hot summer months. The complex includes the palace, a multi-domed mosque, and the saint’s mausoleum.
