South Asia’s largest man-made Shimul (Red Silk Cotton) tree forest, bursting into a breathtaking sea of crimson blossoms along the Jadukata River every spring.
Planted in 2002 by visionary entrepreneur Joynal Abedin in Manigaon village, Shimul Bagan spans nearly 100 acres with over 3,000 systematically aligned Red Silk Cotton trees. In late winter and early spring (February-March), the entire canopy sheds its leaves and explodes into a crimson floral blanket set against the backdrop of the Meghalaya mountain wall.
